Apprentice tags St Mary’s CE Primary School in Putney

Billy Shephard our apprentice at My Nametags, showed his support for National Apprenticeship Week on Friday by making an appearance at St Mary’s CE Primary School in Putney. He labelled anything and everything he could lay his hands on from the school’s spare uniform, in case of art-room spillages and playground accidents, to school, office and playground equipment with labels personalised for St Mary’s.

Billy said “I wanted to promote the National Apprenticeship Scheme because an apprenticeship has helped me to gain vital work experience whilst gaining a highly sought after qualification.  It has also given me the skills and confidence needed to be competent within my job role.”

My Nametags took on Billy last year as an apprentice at the head office in Putney.  Throughout this time Billy showed great skill and initiative and is about to gain his customer service qualification.  As well as his training in customer service, Billy also attended a graphic design course; so he is now designing name tags as well as assisting customers and maintaining the smooth running of the office.  We were so taken with Billy’s work ethic and diligence that we have just offered him a permanent contract.

Lars Andersen, Managing Director here at My Nametags said “We think the National Apprenticeship Scheme (NAS) is vital in helping young people to develop their skills and for the opportunity to gain successful employment.  We also believe that the NAS is important for companies like ourselves in finding enthusiastic and hardworking young people.

We would definitely recommend the apprenticeship scheme and will happily be taking on another apprentice in the coming months”.

For a set of 75 Iron ons and 75 stickers it is the cost of £9.95 a set my opinion is that they are an absolute bargain especially compared to that lost Moshi Monster bag because it hasn’t got a name in another child has ‘mistakenly’ taken it ;) So far K has had his on his jumper since the start of term and it is like they promise absolutely perfect I think I may even buy myself some, yay Hannah stickers :D

Fundraise with My Nametags

Getting ready to go back to school - Fundraise with My NametagsNurseries and schools love it when parents label their children’s belongings. But did you know that you can raise up to £2 per order for your school, nursery or playgroup just by buying your nametapes from My Nametags? Find out how…

You’ve probably helped out at or supported a variety of fantastic fundraising events at your child’s school such as cake sales, Christmas and summer fairs, BBQ’s etc before. But just by ordering your name tags through us you can also raise money for your child’s school. It’s incredibly easy and doesn’t involve any extra cost.

Zoe D’Souza, mum of 2, runs the uniform shop for Thorns Infant school in Warwickshire and has fundraised for her school through My Nametags for 2 years. “It’s so easy and it’s extra money that you wouldn’t get otherwise and all from a label that’s absolutely fantastic!” Zoe’s top tip is to ask mums who order on line to let her know as it will still count towards the fundraising efforts.

Follow these follow these 5 simple steps and you could raise extra funds for your school:

  1. Contact us via email or phone and we will send you as many order forms as you need.
  2. Distribute the order forms to parents in school bags/newsletters etc.
  3. Collect the order forms and cheques (made payable to “My Nametags”) from parents. Send off to My Nametags marked clearly with school/nursery name and address.
  4. We will process your orders and send all the personalized nametags back to your school/nursery for you to distribute.
  5. My Nametags sends your school/nursery a cheque for £1 per set ordered plus any postage. This usually works out to be £2 per order.

Large orders save us time and postage and we are more than happy to pass these savings back to your school, nursery, playgroup or Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA). There’s no need to pre-register.

We send out fundraising cheques after the 10th order. But don’t worry if you collect less than 10 sets of orders we will still process them and keep a record them. When you next send in another order we will add them to your original order and when you reach 10 we’ll send your school/nursery a fundraising cheque.

For example – If six parents order a set of nametags we will process the order and keep a record of them. A few weeks or even a term later you may get another five orders. We will add the two orders together and send your school a fundraising cheque taking into account the 11 orders (6 initial and 5 later orders). Your school will receive a cheque for £22! (£11 x £1 fundraising per set plus 11 x £1 postage.)

Our standard set of nametags costs £9.95 plus postage, and includes 75 iron-on name tags and 75 sticker labels.

If you’d like to know more about fundraising then give us a call on 0800 321 3203 or ask for our fundraising booklet by email. Just remember to include the name and address of your school or organisation.

Happy fundraising!

Six tips for starting school

Picture of school signMost people have vivid memories of their first day at school. It’s such an important event and with the right preparation you can help your child enjoy every minute of it. Read our six strategies to help your child make the move from nursery to school and you could win a ‘Topsy and Tim Start School’ sticker book…

Familiarise yourself

Visit the school together before your child starts school so that it’s less daunting and appears more familiar on the big day. Let the teacher know your child’s likes/dislikes and what interests them. This can be very useful to the teacher to make your child feel comfortable on the first day. If there are two reception classes then you could let the school know about friendships before the summer term ends so that the teachers try not to separate friends.

Safety in numbers

Reassure your child that there will be other children starting school on the same day. Try to find out if there are children living locally going to the same school, and if possible, arrange a play date before the big day.

Uniform

Try the uniform on so your child can get familiar with it and practice getting changed into their sports kit, ballet kit etc. Don’t forget to label everything with My Nametags (even socks!)

Play schools together

Play schools at home together. This will allow you to talk about the school in a positive and reassuring way. It’s a fun and easy way to talk about the school day and introduce what actually happens in the class room.

Choose a new lunchbox

Choose a lunchbox, snack box or backpack together. If they are having school dinners encourage them to ‘try’ new foods. Make sure they know how to use a knife and fork confidently.

Keep your emotions in check

On the big day keep smiling however emotional you may feel. It will show your child that you are happy about them going to school. Don’t hang around too long as it can make the separation more emotional. And don’t forget to get that photo of them looking pristine as they leave the house as it won’t last long!

Everyone’s talking about…Uniform price wars

School uniform and tieTake advantage of the school uniform price war on the high street before you head off for your summer holiday and you could be laughing all the way to the ice cream shop.

Tesco kicked off the annual price war by offering bargain uniforms for just £3.75 with skirts/trousers at £1.50, sweat shirts at £1.75 and polo shirts at just 50p a go. This offer undercut Asda’s £4.75 school range.

Tesco’s clothing chief executive, Terry Green said: “For just £3.75, parents can buy a single uniform in any size from 3 to 16 years, without needing to spend more money by buying in bulk to get the great deal.  We’re telling parents about the great value price now so they don’t have to spend the summer worrying about the cost for kitting out the kids for the new school term.”

Asda has hit back by saying that it is so confident in the quality of its school uniforms that it will fully refund customers on uniform during the first 100 days of the school term if they aren’t completely happy with it. This goes far beyond the 28 or 35 day guarantee of any other retailer.

George at Asda’s managing director, Anthony Thompson, said: “Some retailers are becoming increasingly focused on being the lowest priced at all costs where quality does not appear to be a consideration. Others do offer quality but at extremely high prices, especially on uniforms for older boys and girls. Our quality is comparable to the very best out there but gives much better value for money.”

Both retailers are selling uniforms at one fixed price across all ages. Traditionally, retailers increase the price through the age ranges to reflect the higher cost of making bigger sizes.

In comparison, M&S has school uniforms starting at £6.50 including polo shirts at £1 each (based on a pack of 3). While John Lewis is selling polo shirts at £2-5 with skirts from £8 and pull on trousers from £4.
